Montenegro Company Stamp
Long a symbol of archaic bureaucracy, the use of company rubber stamps has not been mandatory in Montenegro since 2020, under Article 15(1) of the updated Companies Act. In practice, stamped paperwork is still widely used, particularly in dealings with government offices, insurance companies, and banks.
It is recommended that every newly formed company immediately obtain a stamp upon registration with Montenegro’s Company Register. Otherwise, you won’t be able to open a corporate bank account or stamp employment contracts, both necessary steps for obtaining a temporary residence permit in Montenegro.
However, it is likely only a matter of time before Montenegro fully transitions from company stamps to electronic business operations. When that happens, you would need to update your statutory records by submitting revised Articles of Association to the Company Register, removing the provision that enables official stamp use.
