Montenegro Awaits - Let's Make it Yours.
Are you planning your next trip to Montenegro and want to know more about the available airports in Montenegro? The tiny Balkan nation with its beautiful rugged coastline and Venetian coastal towns features two international airports from where you will be almost everywhere within a two-hour drive.
As a general rule, Tivat Airport is your best choice if you plan to stay in Tivat, Kotor, Herceg Novi, or Budva. Should you stay in the southern part of Montenegro’s coast – in Petrovac, Bar, or Ulcinj – Podgorica Airport will be more convenient.

ToggleIf you arrive from overseas, you could also consider Dubrovnik Airport in Croatia which offers more international flights, especially during the summer season.
Montenegro’s largest (it is still tiny) and most-frequented airport is just a 10-minute taxi ride away from Podgorica, Montenegro’s capital city. Besides serving Montenegro’s seaside, it is perfectly suited for everyone who wants to visit the ski resort of Kolasin and the Durmitor National Park.
For the latter part of the 20th century, Podgorica was known as Titograd, in honor of the firmer Yugoslav leader and strongman Josip Broz Tito. That is why Podgorica’s IATA code is still TGD.
Info: Podgorica Airport is characterized by a large number of seasonal charter flights. In the high and shoulder season (May to October), more flights and connections are available.
But even year-round, Podgorica Airport is well-connected with scheduled flights to and from many European destinations. Austrian Airlines frequents four times a week between Vienna and Podgorica in the low season and daily in the remaining months.
Turkish Airlines flies a couple of times per week from Istanbul to Podgorica. Montenegro’s domestic air carrier Air Montenegro flies daily to other regional capitals such as Ljubljana and Belgrade.
Very affordable flights to other international airports are offered by low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizzair. Here is a list of some of the destinations:
For further information and detailed flight information, please check out Skyscanner which offers the best connections and rates.
In the high season, many other destinations are added such as Paris, Copenhagen, Madrid, Warsaw, and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Podgorica’s Airport Business Lounge finds itself inside the security section of the airport and opens two hours before scheduled departure. You can get a voucher for the business lounge at the airline counters in the main hallway.
Many credit cards and third-party programs such as Priority Pass offer lounge access for free or at a reduced rate. The lounge is small and very modest and not comparable to the ones in major airports.
The airport in Podgorica offers a VIP service that gives you access to one of the VIP lounges for a comfortable and private stay within the VIP Terminal of the airport (–> faster passage).
Vip Lounge I and II have a capacity of 8 seats respectively and come at a cost of 150€ per hour. The Presidential Lounge is larger and hosts 11 people – the price is 200€ per hour.

Info: You need to make a reservation one day in advance to use the VIP lounges.

Parking is available at the airport at a rate of just 1,00€ per hour. A daily parking ticket costs 6,00€. Monthly parking is available on request.
Budva is just an one-hour drive from the airport in Podgorica. The easiest would be to just take one of the parked taxis in front of the airport terminal. Royal Taxi (phone: 19702) and Lider Taxi (phone: 19775) have a fixed pricelist for rides to all towns and cities within Montenegro.
The ride to Budva costs 45€.
Tivat (TIV) is Montenegro’s second international airport and welcomes hundreds of thousand of visitors each year. Due to the seasonal nature of Montenegro’s tourism, most flights are only available in the summer months from May – September/October.
Budva is just a 30-minute ride by taxi from Tivat Airport. Expect to pay 45€ with one of the taxi companies. It might be a good idea to schedule your airport pick up beforehand. Watch out for dishonest/illegal taxi operators and always inquire about the full price before starting your ride.
You can learn more about hiring a taxi in our Montenegro Taxi Guide.
Oversea travelers should consider flying to the Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) that lies very close to the Croatia Montenegro border (20 kilometers). Be aware that during the peak season, especially in July and August, it can take up to two hours to cross the border.
The airport in Dubrovnik is larger than TIV and TGD and is served by significantly more airlines. There are even direct flights to the United States of America.
