Conte Restaurant Perast Guide

Conte Restaurant Perast

The 4-star Conte Hotel Perast is amongst Montenegro’s most charming hotels. Also home to the hotel-owned Conte Restaurant, it takes full advantage of its prime seafront location at Perast’s picturesque coastal promenade and serves a menu that is inspired by a blend of Adriatic Fish and Meat cuisinewith an emphasis on regionally sourced ingredients such as oysters from Mali Ston, Croatia, and Kvarner shrimps.

The dreamy enclave, which boasts picture-perfect views of the entire Bay of Kotor, is the perfect choice for a relaxed luncheon or a romantic dinner. Its expansive outdoor terrace and Perast’s impressive stretch of the Mediterranean coast, overlooking Our Lady of the Rocks Island, are the unique backdrops of the Conte Restaurant.

Montenegro’s most picturesque island is just a short distance from Perast’s coast. Our Lady of the Rocks is a must-visit during your trip to Perast.

Relaxed guitar music in the background and noticing service, more than anything else, completed the well-crafted experience from the very first moment we walked in. We didn’t expect anything less from an establishment with such a long history and one of the most substantial wine menus in Montenegro.

First up is a shrimp and fish carpaccio with arugula, the creamy flesh sliced paper thin. The result is a winning combination of delicate and refreshing summer delicacy, with fresh Mediterranean herbs and spices adding to the experience. Next, we got to taste a delicious zucchini carpaccio suffused in pumpkin oil and seeds which tasted like it came straight out of their vegetable garden.

Now it was time for the main courses. The carte du jour offered numerous seductive options, always with the Adriatic Sea as the celestial point. We ordered octopus and it came, grilled in a zesty walnut and honey sauce, and was noticeably tender with a savory almost meaty flavor, probably more akin to red meat than seafood.

The prawn-stuffed gnocchi that followed arrived in perfect texture, not too soft and too firm, drizzled with creamy shrimp sauce, and enhanced with fresh garlic and olive oil. The mussels a la buzzara were a generous portion of chunky mollusks cooked in parsley, garlic, and white wine, and served with warm bread.

The knowledgeable and attentive waiter convinced us to try a local specialty for dessert – Perast Cake. We somehow found space for this addictive and absolutely delicious almond cake, rich enough to share with someone, with delicate notes of vanilla, pine nuts, lemon, and cherry liquor that only added to the indulgence.

No visit to Perast is complete without eating a delicious piece of Perast Cake, a dessert with a centuries-long tradition, best enjoyed in one of the waterfront cafes.

The charming stone building has a couple of tables indoors, and a welcoming, rustic atmosphere in winter, with exposed stone walls and upholstered, in-vogue chairs. The elegant restaurant decor includes sailboat paintings, wood ceiling beams, and classic stone columns. Weather permitting, people love dining alfresco on the beautiful outdoor terrace where sunshades greatly improve the experience.

Tables, chairs, and pots of palms and vibrant flowers lined up on the waterfront, the atmosphere is relaxing and enlivening, a good match for the brilliantly fresh and contemporary concept behind Conte’s cuisine. Montenegrin and Croatian wines are fairly priced, with some available by the glass; a good Malvazija or Vranac Wine is always recommended.
