Porto Montenegro

One of Montenegro’s glamour spots, Porto Montenegro is the place to see and be seen, and during summer, you’re more than likely to catch glimpses of a few celebrity faces and ultra-high-net-worth individuals who come here with their super yachts. John Malkovich, Mark Zuckerberg, Brad Pitt, and Mike Tyson are among the famous people who have been spotted here.

The marina has 481 berths and this is where billionaires and jet-setters like to moor their superyachts – it can accommodate vessels up to 250 meters in length. Making the most of its pristine setting, only a few meters from the docks, it boasts an abundance of designer boutiques and harborside restaurants with diverse cuisines.

History and Culture of Porto Montenegro

Porto Montenegro 2

Porto Montenegro’s history dates back to the year 2006 when Canadian businessman Peter Munk (founder of Barrick Gold) started to envision a luxurious marina at the location of a rusty and desolate former Yugoslav shipyard. In the years that followed, the marina and the adjacent marina village slowly grew into an upscale neighborhood; the first restaurants opened in 2011.

The 5-star Regent Porto Montenegro was the first hotel to be constructed in the nautical village and received its first guests in 2014. Today, many new restaurants, shops, and cafes operate within the luxury compound. If you are the type of person who likes to splash out on fancy food and new outfits, or just love people-watching while sipping a cocktail, this is the right place for you.

Porto Montenegro is well-known for high-end designer shopping and is home to a line of luxury boutiques filled with attire from some of the world’s most coveted luxury brands. Dior, Bulgari, Valentino, and others have all set up shop here, blending traditional Mediterranean aesthetics with contemporary extravagance.

It surely is the wrong place for savvy bargain hunters and cheap stakes but if you are in the market for the toute dernière collection and money is plentiful, here you’ll find many fashionable clothes and accessories at a single location. And if you forgot your bikini at home, the popular French luxury swimwear brand Vilebrequin has a small boutique in one of the back streets.

Belane Beach Tivat 2

It may sound eccentric but most people visit Porto Montenegro to admire the superyachts, luxuriate on the harborfront terraces, and indulge in exquisite cuisines and luxury shopping. People-watching is one of the main activities. But Porto Montenegro has much more to offer: for a day by the sea, head to Belane Beach or Verige Beach, a picturesque stretch of shingles where you can rent sun loungers and watch cruise ships pass in and out of the bay.

Popular with the local Montenegrin residents and visitors alike, visiting a beach club is a worthwhile alternative. The Waikiki Beach Club is just a short walk from Porto Montenegro, and the Instagram-worthy Buddha-Bar with its iconic infinity pool is even closer. People come here for the laid-back atmosphere, good food, and cocktails.

Porto Montenegro is also a hub for all sorts of watersports, including jet-skiing, sailing, and paddleboarding. You can take a boat tour to neighboring coves and beaches, or charter a boat and explore the shoreline by yourself; there are many charter companies in the marina offering everything from small sailboats to superyachts.
