ToggleBellevue Beach Dubrovnik
“Small and secluded beach with a nice view but too many stairs!” – This is how most vitamin D-hungry visitors would describe Bellevue Beach. The beach is situated in Miramare Bay, nestled between beautiful cliffs and rock formations.
Half the beach is managed by the 5-star Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik which is set on the cliff above, overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Unfortunately, only hotel guests can take the elevator down to the beach – everyone else needs to take the 100 or so stairs.
This fine pebble beach is particularly popular with local cliff jumpers whom you will see alongside other locals who prefer playing water polo in the calm and serene Adriatic. There are also children – lots of them – attracted by the small waves and shallow coastal waters.
Particularly on weekends during peak season, expect to see lots of beachgoers who will fight for every remaining square meter of space. Once settled, you will be surprised to see that the sun loungers and parasols are reserved for hotel guests exclusively. Meaning, you need to bring your own.
Or, come later in the afternoon. From about 4 or 5 pm onwards, Bellevue Beach will be covered entirely in shade. This is good news if you are one of those who like to venture out and take a good swim, and not get back burnt to a crisp from the strong summer sun.
In Miramare cove, you’ve got access to some phenomenal diving and snorkeling grounds, including a 30-meter deep sea cave that sits within the rocky shore landscape.
If you need a quick refreshment and recharge in between swims, you can safely rely on the beach restaurant & bar which serves light snacks and drinks. Here, you will also find showers and toilets.
How to get there
You can get to the beach by taking the steps along the side of Hotel Rixos Dubrovnik which will take you down to the beach. It’s a 20-minute walk from Dubrovnik Old Town and the Pile Gate. Just follow the Ul. Branitelja Dubrovnika and then turn left as soon as you approach the hotels.
