ToggleAs a playground for beautiful people and superyacht owners, it’s no wonder that an air of exclusivity pervades Porto Montenegro. The restaurants sharing the harborfront with yacht brokers and designer boutiques epitomize the voguish experience and indulgence many jet-setters and lifestyle enthusiasts crave.
The culinary offerings here include Thai, Japanese, Mexican, and Indian cuisine while some local restaurants provide a bountiful supply of local seafood specialties and others innovate with fusion gastronomy. Here’s our round-up of the eateries serving up the freshest, sunniest flavors and the ceremonial atmosphere to match.
Porto Montenegro is a glamour hotspot with dozens of superyachts docked in the marina, great restaurants, and the best international designer brands on the window displays.
MayaBay, the new Thai restaurant in Porto Montenegro, has rapidly established itself as one of the most sought-after places, and deservedly so. It is located within the premises of the Regent Porto Montenegro (replaced the Library Bar) and overlooks the gleaming yachts parked in the beautiful marina.
The sophisticated Japanese-Thai fusion creations by Head Chef Shane Mac Neill are one of the restaurant’s biggest draws besides its stunning setting and welcoming service, and cocktails are good, too! This is MayaBay’s newest location; its first restaurant opened in Monaco in 2005 and others followed in Mykonos and Dubai.
Al Posto Giusto is an effortlessly, elegant Italian restaurant with a harborfront setting. One of the best breakfast spots in town, it has a wide range of healthy options such as bowls, but it also serves up some of the most delicious pizza and pasta dishes in Porto Montenegro.
French, Italian, and Adriatic influences are also notable on their main course menu that features many all-time classics but there’s some creativity, too: beef steak with seared foie gras & blueberry sauce, stuffed squids, and mussels a la buzzara are some of the highlights. There is good news if you visit during winter – they have a heated outdoor seating area which promises to deliver on cozyness.
With modern Adriatic cuisine and a front-line view of Tivat’s superyachts is how One, Porto Montenegro’s longest-running restaurant, seduces its guests. Hearty beef tartare as a starter, their bacon cheeseburger for lunch, or perhaps a dinner of roasted lamb shank or grilled seabass; you’ll be able to soak up Porto Montenegro’s air of prestige from their spacious terrace.
It surely is also a great spot to unwind with a dessert & coffee or cocktail. The adjacent Crush Wine Bar, which also belongs to the same establishment, is one of the most vibrant hotspots for socializing in the evening hours, offering an extensive menu of wines, sparkling wines, and champagne.
Murano is a landmark restaurant in the ritzy marina village with a menu that revolves around fresh seafood and other local Adriatic specialties; it’s the perfect choice for a romantic dinner. Located within the premises of the Regent Porto Montenegro, it does not fall short of delivering the same 5-star gastronomy.
Each dish is crafted from the highest-quality ingredients available to Executive Chef Marko Zivkovic who does not run a Michelin-starred kitchen but has serious pretensions. Their sharing menus are definitely worth consideration; you can choose among grilled octopus, beef wellington, and grilled turbot with grilled vegetables and beurre blanc sauce. Their brownie and passionfruit chocolate cake is quite the celebrity.
Should you have a special desire for lobster, monkfish in truffle sauce, or Wagyu tenderloin steak, the Marea’s a la carte menu is there to satisfy your cravings. The elegant yet unfussy decor leaves all your focus on the refined culinary masterpieces which all come in good portion sizes and are handsomely presented.
Getting a table as close as possible to the waterfront is the obvious choice but these spots are very sought-after by nature; making a reservation in July and August is thus advisable. Linger over an after-dinner Grappa until the sun slowly disappears behind the yacht-filled marina and the foothills of the Lustica Peninsula in the distance.
Set right at the waterfront in the marina village, the Marea Porto Montenegro is a sophisticated restaurant offering top-notch Mediterranean food.
Biryanis, spicy curries, and creative vegetarian & vegan dishes are the specialties of Masala Art Kitchen, the only Indian restaurant in the area. Tucked away in a calm side street of Porto Montenegro, you can dine al fresco or in their industrial-style dining lounge. There are more than 100 items on the menu so it never gets boring.
Try Murgh Hyderabadi Biryani, Shahi Gosht Kali Mirch, or Paneer Khurchan if you are vegetarian from the a la carte selection. The 10-course set menu is a good alternative and can be ordered with or without meat. The Masala Art is a popular venue with great appeal, especially among the yacht-owning and expat community in Tivat.
Come to this chic venue located on the ground floor of the recently added Elena Residences of Porto Montenegro and enjoy playful juxtapositions – from unexpected yet balanced flavor pairings to ferociously contrasting textures and contemporary takes on Adriatic dishes, international classics, and delicious heirloom desserts.
The most popular mains include the smooth-as-butter grilled octopus in healthy avocado mayonnaise dressing served with roasted baby potatoes and the grilled chicken street tacos topped with a generous blob of yogurt sauce and cheddar. The wine menu showcases the very best of Montenegro’s wine regions, from Vranac reds to Grenache Rose and Montenegrin Chardonnay.
Il Pescatore is a restaurant with a clear vision: serving healthy gourmet comfort food to a demanding well-traveled international audience. Il Pescatore translates as ‘the fisherman’, and almost all of its culinary gems come straight from the Adriatic, but they also offer a good range of burgers.
From classic Black Angus hamburgers to unique varieties such as tuna steak, salmon, octopus, and even shark burgers with jalapeno and wasabi sauce, you’re sure to find something tasty in this recently opened gem. Come for a late afternoon snack with friends or family, sample their interesting menu, and don’t leave until the sun sets. P.S. The truffle fries and the tartufato burger were our highlights!
