Cable Car Dubrovnik

Expensive as hell because it is worth every penny.” – This is how most people would probably describe the cable car ride up Mount Srd. Dubrovnik Cable Car trips have been one of the most popular activities in this beautiful medieval city since 1969, the year the cable car went on its first ride.

At 300€ per hour, the Dubrovnik Cable Car extorts as much from a visitor as a lawyer in New York City. Luckily, the ride is short. It takes the cable car a mere three minutes and 15€ to reach the upper cable car station with the adjacent Imperial Fortress which nowadays serves as a contemporary (and a bit dull) city museum.

Atop, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Dubrovnik Old Town with its scenic 16th-century city walls, the Elaphiti Islands, and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic. Running year-round, the ride is best enjoyed in good weather conditions or at night when the city lights turn the old town into a magical scene.

The cable car departs from a lower station just outside the old town of Dubrovnik, very close to the Buza Gate. We highly advise you to buy your ticket online and in advance to avoid waiting long hours in the queue in front of the ticket stations.

Tip: If you plan to walk the Dubrovnik City Walls, book a combined ticket beforehand. For 56€ per person, you get a return cable car ticket, access to the Walls of Dubrovnik, and a tour across the narrow streets of the old town with an English-speaking guide.

Panorama Restaurant & Bar

The name says it all! The location at an altitude of almost 500m makes for a fantastic panoramic view of the old town of Dubrovnik – it would be a crime not to adore it from one of the terrace seats in summer. But the demand for seats is huge, space is limited, and prices are high in this monopolistic establishment.

Everyone from cruise ship passengers to first-time visitors to Dubrovnik is going to end up contemplating whether allocating parts of their vacation budget toward dining at this restaurant. I want to say that the only way the somewhat astronomical prices are justified is by the gorgeous views.

As a matter of course – a spot on the terrace is a must! You need to book in advance and even then you will have to queue to get to the terrace. Yes, it is always busy and overflown with tourists. If you have already decided to go ahead, you should seriously consider booking a table in the later hours of the day – the night views of Dubrovnik are truly lovely.

If you are a serial traveler, you might have noticed how restaurants in the most beautiful locations do not serve high-quality food. Luckily, it is not the case with the Panorama Restaurant. The chef-patron’s cuisine is no less magnificent, making for vigorous and demonstrative dishes.

There is a decently-sized local wine menu, and ingenious recommendations come courtesy of the professionally-trained waitstaff. The Linguine with Shrimps and Seashells, the Seafood Risotto, or the Lamb Chops are excellent choices with flavors and textures that are well-balanced and engaging.

The delightful apple pie with vanilla ice cream topped with homemade caramel topping rounds out the enjoyable experience, all whilst watching a stunning sunset and receiving a gentle breeze from the top. To conclude, the Panorama Restaurant in the end is worth it – it is not a tourist trap as one might expect at first.

Meals and drinks are expensive but why not treat yourself to a little luxury and a nice experience if you have the means? A large beer is 9€ by the way.

Cable Car Dubrovnik Price

If you are on a tight budget and considering taking the Dubrovnik Cable Car, you should probably spend your tourist money elsewhere because paying the 27€ for the return ticket might feel extortionate to you. And in all honesty, the price is outrageous for the 3-minute ride – getting up the Eiffel Tower is cheaper.

The single ticket will set you back 15€ and this is probably a sensible option for some folks who are reasonably physically fit and want to walk back to the city on foot. It can get pricey if you need to also take your family with you. The Dubrovnik Card does not give you free access to the cable car.

Please see the pricing table below for detailed pricing information for the Dubrovnik Cable Car tickets. Should you also want to visit the Dubrovnik City Walls, it is better to go for one of the Dubrovnik Cable Car tours that include admission to both the cable car and the city walls.
