ToggleIf your mental picture of Montenegro’s Adriatic Coast does not include some staggering seaside resorts, then your voyaging grip is in danger of being seriously outmoded. Lustica Bay, on the southern side of the Lustica Peninsula, is the kind of resort and luxury marina that Montenegro has become known for.
And it’s hard to think of a better promotion for this rugged and remote paradise than the Chedi Lustica Bay. It’s certainly not the easiest stretch of coast to set foot on, which only adds to its discreetly luxurious appeal, and people who own property here or come as visitors intentionally want to be as far away from mass tourism as practically possible.

After the tremendous success of its sister hotel, the Chedi Muscat in Oman, comes a hotel cut from the same cloth but in a very different surrounding. Though on second thought, there are also many similarities: both hotels are engulfed by monumental mountains, and beautiful, and scenic, sandy shores are just around the corner.
When it comes to ultra-luxury oceanside hotels, this five-star beauty has instantly earned its leading position among Montenegro’s finest. An armada of friendly waiters and service personnel in professional attire makes sure that the stock of frozen daiquiris and dragon rolls is never exhausted.
Amidst Montenegro’s coastal resorts, the Lustica Peninsula stands out for being the most secluded and one of the most picturesque. Its pristine natural environment – a sheltered bay surrounded by untouched nature – has helped keep it safe from mass tourism with a relaxed vibe that is sought-after by both families and couples.
The Chedi sits at a blessed location, overlooking the Lustica Bay Marina and the rugged coastline further afield. It’s also just steps away from the resort’s promenade and the Amphitheatre, an outdoor venue where movie nights and opera concerts take place regularly. And even if it feels remote, it is just half an hour’s drive from Kotor and Tivat and only 20 minutes from Tivat Airport.
The picturesque, secluded Lustica Peninsula boasts a diverse beach offering, beautiful rolling hills, ancient churches, and traditional stone villages.
The Chedi’s sunlit outdoor infinity pool is one spot where you will want to spend some of your mornings and afternoons, admiring the stunning scenery with lines of yachts docked down in the marina below. On other days, you’d probably rather prefer to cool off with a dip in the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea – luckily this hotel boasts four charming beaches.
The pebbly Chedi Beach is just a few steps away and the perfect spot to fully disconnect, and truly experience that vacation vibe. There’s a beach lounge up there, too – the Rok Beach Bar, serving some of the best sushis in the region along with Mediterranean-inspired snacks. Equipped with comfortable woven chairs and lazy bags, its commanding position offers some of the finest views of the harbor, especially at sunset.
Once you’ve finished your black slate tray of sushi, reclining on one of the deck loungers or finding peace down by the sea is the next logical step. Get immersed in the pristine beauty of the peninsula under your oversized natural-linen umbrella, and if you need a change, there are three other beaches within easy reach.
Crystal-clear water, a pristine natural setting, and lots of fun in the Almara Beach Club one of the best in Montenegro. Chedi Hotel guests enjoy a free water taxi service.
Electric golf buggies are just a WhatsApp app message away to take you around the Lustica Bay resort. There is also a water taxi service for hotel guests frequenting between the marina and the hotel beaches farther out. The Almara Beach and Ramla Beach sit in two beautiful, adjoining coves, overlooking the bay, and a well worth spending a day at.
Inspired by popular beach clubs in the Mediterranean, the space and vibe feel familiar here, with boho-chic furniture and decor designed to feel as though you’ve stepped into carefree, faraway lands. Fortunately, the DJs here know a thing or two about playing a chilled soundtrack, and the mixologists do not disappoint either.
The Almara Beach Club is further known for its elevated beachside dining, with sesame-seared ahi tuna, lobster linguine, and plenty of truffles on the menu. Aside from these beach haves, you’ll also have the child-friendly Marina Beach at your disposal; it’s a mere 10-minute walk from the hotel along the picturesque Lungomare promenade.
Away from the sun, the Chedi Spa Center is the ideal place to recharge your depleted energy levels. Immerse yourself in the tranquilizing facilities and treatments that draw inspiration from exotic, luxury Spas in Asia. This wellness refuge has numerous treatment areas including a traditional steam room, a sauna, and a fully-equipped gym including a personal trainer.
Two swimming pools are available as well – one outdoor infinity pool and a heated, intimate indoor pool. An impressive choice of massages and therapies using premium, organic VOYA products based on seaweed, will complete your experience.
The 111 commodious rooms and suites are chic and modern, and bathed in lots of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows that enable gorgeous sea, resort, or mountain views. All residences come with roomy balconies or terraces, well-appointed with woven outdoor furniture and marble coffee tables. Starting at 44 square meters, even the standard double rooms are already bright and spacious.
In terms of decor, soothing and soft hues of earthy tones dominate the interior design, with touches of Adriatic blues and greens adding to its charm. Standard amenities include Nespresso coffee machines, media hubs, and heated floors. Bathrooms are finished in light beige and mud-colored large tiles, with walk-in rainfall showers and premium Acqua di Parma toiletries.
The higher-priced suites and the sole penthouse (measuring a lofty 165 square meters) add freestanding tubs and other luxury amenities. With so much attention to detail, it does not wonder then that receiving welcome gifts such as gourmet chocolate and essential oils is a standard praxis in the Chedi Lustica Bay.
Zeljko Knezovic together with his team is responsible for the food creations in the Spot at the Chedi Lustica Bay, a refined restaurant and one of the rising stars in the fast-developing Montenegrin culinary landscape. Zeljko takes advantage of Montenegro’s gastronomic diversity, taking inspiration from many different cuisines.
But Montenegrin cooking stays always at the forefront as he skillfully reinvents traditional recipes, and interprets them in ways you’ve never seen before. One does taste that the ingredients are farm-fresh, no wonder then that the majority of the restaurant’s guests do not stay at the hotel.
However, the three-or-four-course dining experiences with seasonal menus and ingredients are exclusively geared toward hotel guests to enjoy epicurean experiences during all four seasons. Candlelit tables look out onto the Lustica Marina, framed by the striking stone architecture of the resort.
The Chedi’s well-stocked Lobby Bar serves detox drinks, vegan dishes, and signature cocktails in the lobby or at the alfresco terrace. There are refined pastry and cake options, too, with a dedicated cake counter in the mornings. Of course, hotel guests are also pampered by a generous buffet-style breakfast.
The Lustica Peninsula is an absolute oasis for nature lovers as there are numerous biking and hiking trails to choose from. Try the scenic hike from Radovici leading through rugged olive orchards, past the traditional stone village of Babunci, and finally descending to the picturesque Zanjice Beach while enjoying sweeping views of Mamula Island and the Croatian coastline.
For something a little less taxing, consider embarking on a journey to one of the nearby coastal towns such as Tivat, Kotor, or Herceg Novi which can be reached via ferry. Meander through the narrow cobblestone streets of Kotor’s Old Town, enjoy the stunning scenery of the Bay of Kotor from one of Herceg Novi’s terraces, or admire the opulence of the super yacht marina Porto Montenegro.
Taste some local delicacies, visit a farmer’s market, and then enjoy a meal at one of the oceanfront eateries you’ll find along the bay. Excursions to Perast, Our Lady of the Rocks, and the Blue Cave are also popular with hotel guests, and all three destinations can be combined into a single boat trip.
Tivat is an up-and-coming coastal town boasting the super yacht marina Porto Montenegro and a picturesque promenade lined with many restaurants and cafes.
Here is our list of the best things to do in Kotor, from fun and family-friendly outdoor activities and cultural experiences to fascinating local festivals.
