Take our Pre-Qualification Quiz and Book a Free Intro Call

Before you can apply for Croatia's Digital Nomad Visa, we’ll first need to evaluate whether you meet the program's requirements. After you take the short pre-qualification quiz, you can book a free 15-minute consultation with us to discuss:

✓ Your Individual Background
(Citizenship, criminal record, remote work status, and other essential eligibility requirements)

✓ Requirements for Family Members / Dependents
(Who qualifies, how family reunification works, necessary documents, and expected timelines)

✓ Income Tax Implications
(A brief overview of how taxes affect digital nomads in Croatia)

🕛  15 Minutes

Step 1

Get Your Documents Ready

Check that each required item is up-to-date and legalized correctly to avoid application delays. Required documents are:

✓ Passport and Copies
(Passport or ID valid for at least three months beyond your visa expiration, with clear copies of all relevant pages)

✓ Evidence of Remote Work or Foreign Business
(An employment or service contract in English or Croatian, alternatively, an extract from a foreign business registry, or other official documents confirming that you work remotely for a foreign employer or operate your own business abroad)

✓ Proof of Income and /or Sufficient Financial Means
(You must show a minimum monthly income of 3,295€ plus 10% for each family member or spouse/partner seeking residency through family reunification. Alternatively, you may also provide a bank statement showing a balance of at least 59,310€ (39,540€ when applying for a 12-month visa) to qualify)

✓ Proof of Health insurance
(Private or travel health insurance policy from an international or Croatia-based insurer covering the entire duration of your visa, typically 18 months)

✓ Proof of Accommodation
(First-time applicants can provide a lease agreement or a hotel reservation if they do not yet have a registered address in Croatia)

✓ Police Clearance Certificate
(Apostilled police certificate from your country of citizenship or, if you have lived abroad during the 12 months preceding your application, from your country of last residence)

🕛  1 - 2 weeks

Step 2

Visa Application, Approval & Collection

Once all documents are ready, the next step is to submit your Digital Nomad Visa application, either at a local administrative police station (MUP) in Croatia or embassy (if you require a visa to enter Croatia). The advantage of applying from within Croatia is that you can stay in the country continuously for up to 21 months (without renewing) by leveraging your 3-month tourist stay, plus 18 months as a digital nomad.

✓ Wait for Approval
(Once your digital nomad visa application is submitted, you’ll be asked to provide a local Croatian phone number so the immigration police (MUP) can contact you regarding your application. Once your visa is approved, typically within four to eight weeks, you will be notified by regular mail, email, phone call, or through your appointed lawyer or immigration agent)

✓ Register Your Address
(You must now register your long-term residential address, either by providing a notarized rental agreement or title deed. You must do so within 30 days of arrival, or within 180 days if you entered Croatia on a type-D visa)

✓ Provide Biometrics
(Even if you applied through an embassy, consulate, or online, you’ll still need to visit the local immigration office (MUP) in person to provide your biometrics — photo and fingerprints)

✓ Collect Your Residency ID
(Applicants who do not require a visa to enter Croatia can now collect their residency ID card from the same immigration police office where their biometrics were submitted. Those who do not have visa-free access to Croatia must first apply for a type-D visa (long-stay visa) at their nearest Croatian embassy or consulate, and then collect their biometric residence permit from the local MUP once they arrive)

🕛  4 - 8 weeks

Step 3

Family Reunification (Optional)

After your Croatian Digital Nomad Visa is granted, your immediate family members (underage children, married spouse, or non-married spouse if you can prove that you have been together for more than 3 years) become eligible to apply for residence through the family reunification process. The following documents are required for this step:

✓ Extract from the Marriage Register
(You must submit a recent marriage or civil union certificate issued within the past six months)

✓ Police Certificate
(For your spouse and children aged 16+: apostilled police certificate from their country of citizenship or, if they have lived abroad during the 12 months preceding their application, from their country of last residence, issued within the past six months)

✓ Birth Certificate(s)
(Recent extract from the birth register for each underage child, issued within the past six months and apostilled)

✓ Proof of Financial Solvency
(You must demonstrate a 10% higher income for each accompanying family member)

🕛  4 weeks

Step 4

Settling In

With your digital nomad visa in hand, you’re ready to start living, working, and taking advantage of Croatia’s nomad-friendly tax system.

✓ Collect Your Dependents’ Residency ID Cards
(Visit the same local administrative police station (MUP) with your dependents to confirm their biometrics (photo + fingerprints) and register their address if not already done, and pick up their ID cards when ready)

✓ Open Croatian Bank Accounts (If Needed)
(A local bank account simplifies paying rent and handling everyday transactions; an OIB number is required)

✓ Enroll Your Children in School
(If you have school-age children, enroll them in local schools - public or international)

The power of Adriacom lies in the team’s ability to swiftly adapt to challenges and anticipate problems before they occur. This has saved me lots of money and resources. I’ve been a client for over 5 years and I just can’t see myself running my small online business without them at this point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Digital Nomad Visa in Croatia

Who can apply for the Digital Nomad Visa in Croatia?

If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen working remotely for a company or clients outside Croatia, you are eligible to apply for this digital nomad visa. You must have a valid passport, proof of remote income, a clean criminal record, and health insurance covering your stay.

You must show a monthly income of at least 3,295€ or a bank balance of at least 59,310€ (covering 18 months of living expenses) when applying for the 1.5-year digital nomad visa, or 39.540€ when applying for the 1-year permit. For family members, you add 10% per dependent.

Croatia’s Digital Nomad Visa is valid for 18 months, with the option to renew for an additional 18 months. After completing the full three-year period, you must wait six months outside Croatia before being eligible to resubmit your application.

Yes. Close family members can join you in Croatia through a process called family reunification after your own Digital Nomad Visa has been approved.

Eligible family members include your underage children (biological or adopted) and your spouse or common-law partner — provided you can prove that you have lived together for at least three years, or immediately if you have children together.

Each family member must submit their own documentation:

  • a birth certificate for each child (issued within the last 6 months)
  • marriage certificate and criminal background check for your spouse/partner

Since January 1, 2023, Croatia has been part of the Schengen Zone, so you can travel visa-free within Schengen countries for short stays (up to 90 days within 180 days), but you must reside primarily in Croatia.

Croatia’s digital nomad visa offers no pathway to permanent residency or citizenship.

Generally, no. As a holder of the digital nomad residence permit, you are exempt from Croatian income tax on foreign earnings, as long as you don’t work for Croatian clients or companies.

However, you may still need to report your income in your home country. Investment income and capital gains may still be subject to taxation in Croatia.
