Medical Treatment Visa Montenegro

The Medical Treatment Visa (Montenegrin: ‘Privremeni boravak radi liječenja’) is intended for individuals traveling to or staying in Montenegro to receive medical treatment. It can be extended if necessary, as evidenced by a certificate from the hospital, other healthcare facility, or attending physician.

The Requirements & Process

To obtain a Medical Treatment Visa in Montenegro, you must meet the general criteria for a temporary residence permit and confirm that you are scheduled to receive medical treatment at a public or private hospital or other medical facility in Montenegro, including the planned dates and duration of your stay. See the complete list of requirements below:

  • Have a passport with a validity extending at least three months beyond the period of your planned medical treatment
  • Official letter from your treating hospital or medical facility in Montenegro
  • Sufficient financial means to support yourself during your stay: at least 3.650,00€ deposited in a Montenegrin bank account (10€ for each day of the year)
  • Police check (from your country of citizenship, issued within the last 6 months, apostilled)
  • Proof of accommodation if staying outside of medical treatment facilities (a notarized lease agreement over the entire duration of your stay is required)
  • Proof of travel health insurance issued by a Montenegrin insurance company, covering the entire duration of your stay
  • Police clearance certificate and marriage certificate (apostilled and issued within the last 6 months) when sponsoring your spouse
  • Birth certificate for each underage child accompanying you to Montenegro (apostilled and issued within the last 6 months)

The Medical Treatment Visa is typically issued within 14 days after submitting your application at the immigration office. Citizens of countries that require a visa to enter Montenegro must first obtain a Type D business visa from the Montenegrin embassy or consulate in their country of residence before applying for residency.
