Opatovo Beach

Venture to the captivating Opatovo Beach for a rejuvenating day under the Montenegrin sun. Choose between sunbaking or unwinding in the heavy shade of the backdrop of lush Mediterranean vegetation. This clean and beautiful pebble beach feels a bit more secluded than nearby city beaches.

Locals and tourists like to spend their time here with their families, partners, or in groups; it has a universal appeal. Considering its location – a 7-minute drive to Porto Montenegro – it surprisingly is low-profile, which is a good thing. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and exploring the rich marine life this area is known for.

Swimming in the Bay of Kotor is an unforgettable experience; the waters are crystal-clear and you’ll enjoy a picture-perfect view of the Herceg Novi Riviera. Or, just absorb the stunning scenery from the comfort of your sun lounger; many cruise ships and yachts pass here through the Verige Strait on their way to Kotor.

Live music events are held here every other day in the evening hours. But otherwise, the relaxed beach mood won’t be interrupted by loud music. With so much going on, Opatovo Beach is the perfect place to make lasting vacation memories.

The Bay of Kotor
Verige Strait

The Verige Strait is the narrowest stretch of the Bay of Kotor, connecting the outer to the inner bay. It measures only 340 meters in width.

Things to do on Opatovo Beach

Besides offering the quintessential Adriatic coastal pleasure, including basking in the sun, splashing in the water, and relaxing, this beach has numerous activities. The facilities – inflatable water slide and other water toys – come in handy for a family day out. It goes without saying that your children will love it.

On the other side, adults will appreciate the original hookah experience and the choice of well-made cocktails and fresh fruits in the beach bar. It is also possible to rent jet skis, SUPs, and kayaks and then admire the jaw-dropping beauty of the Montenegrin coastal landscape from the sea.

Safety and Access

Opatovo Beach is well worth the short trip from Tivat and is easily accessed by car or bus (regular bus connections are from Tivat or Kotor), with some roadside parking available close to the beach. Halling a taxi won’t be too expensive either. Read our Montenegro Taxi Guide for more information.

Onsite, you will find showers, changing cabins, and toilets at the Svetionik Beach Bar. Further, a designated safe swim zone is marked with buoys. Should you venture out further afield, keep an open eye on jet skis and boats this is a highly-frequented passage and ocean currents flow deep within the water.

Restaurants on Opatovo Beach

Sample some local Adriatic fare such as grilled prawns or squids in the Svetionik Beach Bar – named after the lighthouse that divides the beach into two equal parts – and match it with the local white wine, Malvazija or Krstac.

Of course, nobody will give you a second look when ordering a cocktail, pasta dish, or pizza which, by the way, is probably the best you’ll get in that area. For a bigger selection of eateries, choose a relaxed oceanfront restaurant in Tivat or Prcanj, where there are dozens of decent restaurants serving everything from Mexican, Indian, and Chinese, to local Montenegrin cuisine.
