TogglePetrovac Montenegro
For many first-time visitors, Petrovac with its two little islets, is love at first sight. Petrovac is known for its attractive coastal promenade that is lined with many waterfront restaurants, cafes, and bars, and is just 18 kilometers from Budva. The town center which is characterized by its beautiful stone architecture, enjoys a marvelous backdrop of towering mountains.

Petrovac History & Culture
The earliest marks left on Petrovac’s native landscape are from the Romans, who arrived here more than 1,600 years ago and left behind a substantial archaeological imprint in the form of Roman mosaics that can be visited today close to Saint Elijah Church.
Petrovac was primarily inhabited by the Pastrovici tribe during the Middle Ages. Lastva, as it was known back then, was first mentioned in a letter from a local priest in the 12th century. Petrovac’s more recent history is eternally tied to the Venetians who ruled from 1423 to their demise in 1797 over Petrovac.
Under Venetian rule, the town prospered, and during the 16th century, the Kastio Fortress (Castello) was erected at the northern end of the town, protecting Kastel Lastva (name during Venetian era) from pirates and invaders. When Montenegro became part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1918, the town’s name was changed to Petrovac – in honor of the then-ruling King Peter I.
Major Attractions
Kastio Fortress, which offers breathtaking vistas to all sides, still remains and is today the signature landmark of Petrovac. Atop you will find two well-preserved metal cannons and a Partisan war memorial, commemorating local residents and other victims of fascism at the time of the period 1940-1945.
The quay below, which is dominated by small fishing boats and anglers, is also the terminus for couples and families strolling along the lovely promenade. The area around Petrovac Harbor offers several good waterfront restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a glass of local wine or beer and watch the world go by.
Perazica Do Beach
Take the picturesque walkway towards Rezevici to arrive at Perazica Do Beach, known for its turquoise waters and the abandoned hotel.
The 14th-century Saint Elijah Church sits on the parallel street to the coastal promenade and is adorned with beautiful Byzantine-style frescos. Take the walk up from there along the clifftops towards Rezevici and Perazica Do Beach. The pathway is framed by cypresses and here and there you get glimpses of Kastio Fortress, the two islets, and the stunning mountainscape of Petrovac.
‘Katic’ and ‘Sveta Nedjelja’ are the two islands that lie about a kilometer in front of Petrovac and constitute one of the town’s most important landmarks. Sveta Nedjelja is the islet with a small church on top. Due to its proximity to the coast, it is one of the most popular places to visit while in Petrovac.
You can go there by kayak, paddle boat, or boat. Boats go back and forth between the island and the marina frequently. It is a custom to ring the church bell when on the island; you can do so by pulling the rope. Neighboring Katic is rich in underwater life, and both islands are marine protected areas.
