ToggleRamla Beach
If you are looking for a boho-chic beach club experience, with crystal-clear waters and lots of fun, and not far from Lustica Bay, Ramla Beach might tick all your boxes. This trendy lifestyle venue has replaced the beloved and fashionable 21 Beach Club, has finetuned its concept, and is currently one of Montenegro’s most popular beach clubs.
Trendy Beach Clubs
Whether you’re in search of an elevated culinary experience or a chic beachside party spot, here’s our guide to the best beach clubs in Montenegro.
Lustica Bay
A very special place on a peninsula that separated Tivat from the open sea, Lustica Bay is slowly turning into one of the most refined marinas and lifestyle destinations.
With no contest, the water here must be one of the cleanest in Montenegro; it is so clear that you can see several meters through it. The cliffside beach is well-maintained and invites guests to relax, feast on delicious local meals, and spend the whole day here in a laid-back yet obviously cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The beach itself is wedged between a stunning cliff cave formation, tucked far away from hectic life. This paradise has a gorgeous style scheme, virtuoso service, superb food, and soothing music. Bringing all these components together, Ramla Beach delivers on its promise to be a genuine Mediterranean dream spot.
Taking its name from the Arabic word for ‘grain of sand‘, which is probably a bit stretched – ‘small, golden pebbles’ would be a more appropriate description. Whatever may be the case, the calm water of Ramla Beach and the gentle wavelets are ideal for swimming while the beach club offers plenty of (not exactly cheap) sunbeds and tiki-style parasols for rent.
If maximizing your tan is your primary objective, arrive early, because due to the towering cliffs, most of the beach will be in the shade as early as 4:30 pm. Despite growing competition from the neighboring beach clubs, Ramla Beach has established itself as one of the leading lifestyle establishments, in large part due to its bohemian decor, solid menu, and excellent facilities on hand.
The toilets, dressing rooms, and showers are brand-new and spotlessly clean. There are also various board games in the lounge area – but they are rarely used – the beachgoers prefer instead to hang out at the triangular wooden bar or the stunning beach swing. Needless to say this is also the most popular photo spot.
During the day, the Ramla Beach Club offers a funky, relaxed island vibe, before giving way to a more hedonistic partying atmosphere as the night approaches. On weekends, the popular Ramla and Boho parties extend well into the early morning hours – expect champagne-laden buckets and dancing with sandy feet.
Safety and Access
Ramla Beach is accessible by car via a gravel road off of the main road that connects Lustica Bay to Tivat and Kotor. At the end of this road is an unpaid car park, and then it’s a rocky path downhill before arriving at the beach, making it difficult to access for wheelchair users and mothers with strollers, but then again, this is not the target group anyway.
A taxi boat service operates from the Lustica Marina (two kilometers away) to the beach multiple times per day and is free to use for Chedi Hotel guests. There is a lifeguard on duty here and safe swim areas are well-marked with buoys.
Things to do on Ramla Beach
Most beachgoers start by sinking themselves into a sunbed and letting the twinkling Adriatic draw them in. You’ll find the water warm and suitable for swimming and snorkeling. Water sports equipment is available for hire as well in case you want to explore neighboring coves and natural landmarks such as the Blue Cave.
The terrain surrounding this sea grotto is perfect for scuba diving thanks to the clear, translucent water and interesting underwater landscapes. You can go there by kayak but joining a boat ride (charter companies available in the marina) or renting a jet ski will get you there much quicker.
Other popular destinations along the coast include Rose, a picturesque fishing village facing Herceg Novi, and Cape Arza. Of course, the herb-scented scrub landscape of Lustica lends itself to being explored by bike or foot as well – most hiking trails are marked with a white dot surrounded by a red circle.
Restaurants on Ramla Beach
The Ramla Beach Club is a significant step up from the old-fashioned beach shacks, serving fries and hamburgers. Here you’ll find a more light and innovative menu, including sushi, paella, grilled seafood, and fresh fruits. And of course, a good selection of negronis, signature cocktails for that added special touch.
Otherwise, you’ll need to make your way to the Marina Village for a wider selection of places to eat. Along the boardwalk, you’ll find numerous restaurants serving everything from Italian delicacies and American-style burgers to local Adriatic cuisine. Two very popular eateries include The Spot at the Chedi Lustica Bay and 21 Bistro, both of which draw guests from across Montenegro for their creative cuisine and atmosphere that often includes live music.
Hotels on Ramla Beach
There are no hotels on Ramla Beach but the nearest accommodation would be found in the Lustica Bay Marina, namely the Chedi Hotel and the Lustica Bay Apartments., which are the only options in this area. For a wider selection of hotel accommodations, you’ll need to look in Tivat, whereas dozens of vacation rentals, including stone villas with swimming pools, are available in Radovici and its neighboring Lustica villages.
