ToggleDiscover Podgorica, an often-overlooked destination that, however, offers an interesting, unique mix of laid-back convenience and natural beauty.
In recent years, Bulevar Dzordza Vasingtona (named after the first president of the United States), has become the city’s major luxury shopping street. Lined with big names such as TWINSET, Liu Jo, BOGGI Milano, Marina Rinaldi, Max&Co, Bogner, BOSS, and many others, today this is the main address in Podgorica for buying designer clothing and accessories.
Another interesting outlet is the DURO niche perfumery, which brings the old-world elegance of French perfume shops into Montenegro’s capital, offering an incomparable product range of refined scents, from Oriental woody, smokey fragrances to the best and most coveted fresh, fruity compositions currently on the market.
The BIG Fashion shopping center (formerly ‘Delta‘) is by far the most popular mall in Podgorica with 120 shops housing plenty of domestic as well as international apparel brands such as KIKO Milano, MANGO, Tommy Hilfiger, yamamay, and ZARA. On the ground floor is a large Aroma supermarket, plus a variety of sports fashion retailers, food & service businesses, a multi-screen cinema, and even a postal office and a hair salon.
The former City Mall (now also integrated into the BIG Fashion shopping center complex) sits in an annex building and has 22 shops spread out across three levels. Among others, you’ll find here a bookstore, a large sporting goods store (Intersport), a children’s play area, and an ambient rooftop bar & restaurant. There is a large car park in front of the shopping center, which is free for the first hour.
The BIG Fashion Mall is situated in the heart of the bustling City Quart neighborhood, within easy reach of the city center. The Extra Retail Park is the best place in Podgorica for outlet shopping, boasting a small yet formidable collection of local and international stores, including NIKE and U.S. Assn. as well as a few shoe retailers and a kid’s store. Located only 5 minutes away from the city center, the Extra Retail Park is open from Monday through Saturday from 08:00 to 22:00 hours.
Enza Home (part of the Turkish Yatas Group) is considered one of the most stylish and elegant furniture stores in the whole of Montenegro, offering Italian-inspired design from its storefront in Donja Gorica. They offer an interesting blend of reasonably priced beds, sofas, dining room furniture, and home textiles.
La Galleria is a furniture, lighting, and accessories shop with a focus on high-quality Italian brands. Their showrooms, situated also in the Donja Gorica neighborhood, offer style-conscious customers the opportunity to explore beautiful designs by Natuzzi, Foscarini, Poltrona Frau, and Calligaris, as well as other famous Italian manufacturers.
Further down the road, there is a good choice of further, more affordable, furniture stores, including an increasing number of Turkish outlets, that are well worth a visit – in case you’re looking for a bargain. Simpo, Zecanka, and Namos Dajkovic are some of the best places to buy inexpensive furniture in Montenegro whereas Temas Lighting, Emass, and Eglo Rasvjeta specialize in light and lamps.
Up until 15 years ago, if you found yourself on Hercegovacka Street, it could mean only one thing – shopping. It was Podgorica’s most important high street before Bulevar Dzordza Vasingtona became the new designer shopping street and the BIG Fashion mall opened in 2008.
While the big brands have moved to their stocks to the new trendy locations across town, you can still find some interesting stores on Hercegovacka Street such as Extreme Intimo (underwear, swimwear, and nightwear), OVS Kids, and M&M for shirts and accessories. Cavaliere, an elegant men’s clothing store, selling suits, ties, and leather shoes also has a boutique here.
Another great option if you are looking for inexpensive men’s wear is Boutique Montana, which stocks a good range of casual as well as formal fashion brands, including Tom Tailor, Beverly Hills Polo Club, and Santos&Santorini among others.
Two women’s fashion boutiques not to miss in this part of Podgorica are Butik Lela and the store by Montenegrin fashion designer Milena Djurdjic. Born and raised in Podgorica herself, Milena had at first only designed the most stylish and excentric attire, but with the introduction of her ‘Everyday by Milena‘ fashion line, her works are now affordable for everyone.
