Insider’s tip: When visiting the beach in Montenegro, it’s good to know that there are two options: free, public beaches, and private beach sections where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas.
Plavi Horizonti Beach
One of the few sandy beaches on the Tivat Riviera, and easily the most child-friendly, Plavi Horizonti Beach sits in a lush cove on the Lustica Peninsula. Its name translates into ‘Blue Horizons’ and that is exactly what you can expect to see here from the comfort of your sun lounger or beach towel.
It’s also, of all the nearby beaches, the only one with shallow waters, perfect for carefree moments with young children and less confident swimmers. The bay is ringed with beautiful scenery in the form of pine-tree-shaded cliffs. There is also the option to escape the beach’s regimented sunbeds towards either end for more privacy.
On the beach, you’ll hear the gentle sound of waves and children splashing, and find your toes sinking into the warm sand. Beyond the sand and shallow waters, however, lie the true riches of the Plavi Horizonti Bay, so be sure to bring your snorkel and fins. This beach is one of two in the Tivat municipality that has been awarded the ‘Blue Flag’ for extraordinary water quality and sanitary standards.

Come early to experience the glowing morning sun casting rays across the boats docked offshore, and to secure one of the few free spots.
Its golden pebbles seem milled to the perfect softness and contrast perfectly against the azure-colored Adriatic Sea; add an upscale beach club vibe to the mix and it is no wonder then that Ramla Beach is currently one of the trendiest spots on Montenegro’s coast.
When you are done swimming and sunbathing for the day, find a white chair at the beach bar and match it with fried squids, a healthy salad, or a sundowner of your choice. Then relax and watch as the seagulls skim the sunset-infused horizon. The wooden beach swing is popular with the bikini-wearing crowd.

Best for sunsets: Almara Beach
Located between Ramla Beach and the Lustica Marina, Traste Bay’s attractive geography guarantees a dozen twinkling yachts moored in plain sight. The marina village of Lustica Bay itself is also a rather unique stretch of the Adriatic coastline. Its traditional Mediterranean architecture features lots of stone elements and hides the fact that this is a brand-new (luxury) development.
And even among the four or so beaches directly managed by the Lustica Bay resort, Almara Beach probably enjoys the most strikingly clear seas. Don’t forget your mask and snorkel to discover the stunning underwater scenery as well. The culinary offer in the Almara Beach Club is surprisingly sophisticated, certainly not something you would expect from a beach bar.
You can either recline on one of the beachside loungers or take a seat on the outdoor patio, overlooking the sea. This is an adult-only establishment, a playing field for hedonists and sunset watchers, the right place for everyone giving value to privacy and exclusivity. Residents of the Chedi Hotel can take advantage of the free boat shuttle service to the beach and back.

Being wedged between the super yacht marina of Porto Montenegro and Lustica Bay, this beach also managed somehow to maintain a relatively low profile. It does get busy though during peak season, so you better arrive early and secure your spot under the sun.
The secluded Tivat Bay is the perfect location to hire a kayak or SUP from the beach bar and paddle into the calm summer seas. When you come back to your sunbed, it’s time to fetch a cocktail and some savory snacks (they serve excellent local seafood) from the Movida Garden Lounge and enjoy the psychedelic sunset views.

Verige Beach
The 90-meter-long Verige Beach finds itself on the Verige Strait, a narrow choke point that connects the Bays of Kotor, Tivat, and Risan. This beach is relatively small and does not have many facilities (no showers and changing cabins) but comes with a laid-back beach bar, perfect for watching vibrant sunset-induced colors in the evenings.
Its shingles sink into deep blue shallows, and snorkelers can spot a rich and diverse underwater world. A characteristic element of the beach is the two stone churches (accessible to the public) in its immediate vicinity. The beaches’s attractive geography ensures a steady stream of twinkling white yachts and cruise ships passing by.
Locals like to jump off the concrete pontoon into the glassy sea. Across the Verige Strait, you can see the Verige 65 restaurant and the other half of the Bay of Kotor looming in the distance. Visitors can also enjoy unique views of Perast and the Our Lady of the Rocks Island from here.

One of the perks of Waikiki Beach is the well-developed facilities around it, including showers, toilets, a kid’s playground, and dressing rooms.
Its location also comes in handy. If you’re based close to Porto Montenegro and like the idea of some light exercise, it’s just a 15-minute walk along the picturesque coastal promenade. This urban beach has a wide-reaching appeal for everyone looking for a quick refreshment or an entire day by the sea.
Bask in the sun on your rented lounger or unwind in the Red Lobster beach bar and restaurant. With ample width, there’s plenty of space to spread out your towel on the free, public part but it’s not as comfortable due to the large pebbles. In any case, you’ll enjoy gorgeous views of the Island of Flowers and Lustica Peninsula.
Belane Beach is a hub of activity for water sports enthusiasts as well. The lively Ponta Beach Bar sits on its southern flank, overlooking Tivat’s ritzy super yacht marina and serving cocktails and local cuisine on its beachfront terrace.
Similar to the iconic Zlatni Rat in Croatia, one part of Ponta Seljanovo Beach juts into the Adriatic, resulting in a narrow V-shaped structure – some of it occupied by rentable sun loungers, parasols, and Balid beds – but there are also public parts where you’re free to place your towel right on the pebbles.
The glorious Tivat – Donja Lastva seaside walkway runs alongside it, providing cyclists and walkers with beautiful scenery for those wanting to enjoy the view of the stunning Bay of Kotor and inhale some salty sea air en route.
