Murici Beach

Montenegro’s Adriatic coast is stunning and has some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches, especially on the Budva Riviera. Not all too many people know about a beautiful secluded lake beach on the shores of Skadar Lake, of course, we are talking about Murici Beach.

This scenic stretch of the lake shore is mostly made up of white pebbles and stones that may hurt your feet. But the upside is that the water here is exceptionally warm and crystal clear – and there are not too many beachgoers. The beach is backed by lush hilly terrain and overlooks the picturesque Beska Island and Monastery.

Onsite, no sun loungers and parasols are available for hire. If you plan to stay for the whole day, you’d be better advised to bring your beach equipment, or, try to secure a spot in the shaded areas. There is only one restaurant here offering grilled fish from the lake along with simple salads.

Murice Beach is probably best described as a wild and untouched beach without toilets, showers, and changing cabins. This is one of those beaches where you find the occasional donkey or goat lying next to you. It is also perfectly suitable for children due to the gentle entry into the water.

Don’t miss the chance to take a swim: during peak season, the water temperature can get as high as 30 degrees with hardly any waves. Standing there in the shallow waters – with tiny fish nibbling at your feet and the sound of the church bells in the background – is truly a tranquil experience.

And while to lake probably is best explored by kayak, there are unfortunately no rentals available at Murici Beach – you need to bring your own instead. From the beach, there are however boat trips available to the Beska Island and to the other islets surrounding it.

How to get there

Murici Beach is accessible by road from either Virpazar or Bar. From either side, you need to take a steep and narrow winding road with many curves and bends. The road is not in good condition and it is not recommended for beginner drivers.

From Virpazar it’s an hour’s drive on a scenic single-lane road, passing the idyllic villages of Godinje and Seoce. There are two options from Bar – the longer road via Ostros and the shorter one via Virpazar.

Parking is available onsite at a rate of 2 – 3€ per day.
