Ada Bojana Beach is one of the best-known nude beaches in Montenegro because of its pristine waters and soft, dark sand that extends over 3 kilometers across the Bojana River delta. Sitting on a triangular-shaped piece of land with the Bojana River flowing into the Adriatic to both sides, Ada Bojana is a beach for nature enthusiasts, who will value its sense of wild beauty and remoteness.
This is a relaxed refuge to rest which is very popular with international tourists who make their long way south for the sweeping views at this southernmost tip of Montenegro, from where you can even see neighboring Albania. People of all ages enjoy this naturalist beach though it mainly draws a middle-aged crowd, but you will also find older beachgoers who have been coming here for decades.

Ada Bojana is primarily known for its nudist settlement, a 1970s Yugoslav project of bungalows at the northern flank of the beach. The nonchalant island vibes made this faraway stretch of Montenegrin coastline the ideal location for an entire resort where wearing clothes has been frowned upon. It has been the only retreat of this kind in Montenegro, and it is still welcoming adventurous naturalists.
What is so special about the beach? The water is shallow, the entry into the water is exceptionally gentle, and there are rarely any large waves here (wind is common though), which is nice for non-swimmers. Sun loungers and parasol rentals are readily available, but there is also lots of space further afield for spreading out towels right on the sand.
The swimming season starts in May and lasts until the first two weeks of October, and even though the water is shallow, swimming is easier here than in neighboring Long Beach. Thanks to the gentle ocean breeze, it does not even feel too hot here, though the thermometer might say otherwise.

Things to do
People come to Ada Bojana Beach for the ultimate escape, for its surprisingly exotic feel, and to be away from the usual. During the peak season in July and August, the bars on the other side of the river might feature live music events and beach parties after 8 pm, but in general, it remains an extremely unhurried and peaceful environment.
The beach is backed by beautiful dunes, Mediterranean shrubs, forests, and coastal wetlands that extend back towards the Solana in Ulcinj. This is a gigantic wetland area with dozens of saltpans. They constitute one of Montenegro’s most important bird sanctuaries and breeding grounds for a variety of species such as pygmy cormorants and squacco herons.
There are no watersports on Ada Bojana Beach, leaving plenty of room for waders and swimmers who will need to walk quite a bit before it gets deep. Horseback riding tours along the beach can be arranged via the Urosevic Jockey Club, a local company that also offers sunset rides – a great experience for the whole family.
Feeling more ambitious? Cross the bridge in the direction of Long Beach and go kitesurfing. With no less than 7 kite centers beside each other, renting equipment and having a few hours of fun with your kite can easily be combined with a visit to the nudist beach. Walk along the dunes at sunset time, and you will certainly have some Instagram-worthy pictures to share with your friends and colleagues.

Safety and Access
Ada Bojana Beach is reached from Ulcinj to the north, via a road that winds through the Solana saltpans and coastal wetlands of Stoj. Wide and lush, the landscape here is beautiful and very interesting for birders. It feels a bit like you are on another continent until you cross the one-lane bridge over the Bojana River and arrive at the nudist settlement.
Daily parking costs 5€ and empty lots are readily available. Ada Bojana Beach lies about 15 kilometers south of Ulcinj and can be reached within half an hour’s drive. During the busy holiday season, minibusses run frequently between Ulcinj and the beach. A taxi ride from Ulcinj won’t be too expensive either.

Restaurants on Ada Bojana Beach
Food options are plentiful on Ada Bojana and the surrounding area. There is one restaurant right on the beach (Nova Ada Bojana), with a larger selection of local and international dishes such as grilled quids, pasta, and pizza. This venue is also known for live music in the evenings and good cocktails.
Slightly further up the beach along the Bojana riverbank, you’ll find a good range of authentic, traditional restaurants set among old wooden houses. The popular Misko Fish Restaurant (reservations might be required during the peak season), serves tasty Adriatic fare with a focus on freshly-caught fish from the river delta. Although the prices are reasonable, fresh fish by the kilogram is a little more expensive.
Konoba Kod Ranka is renowned for its delicious fish soup (served in an authentic copper pot), tuna steaks, and a variety of risottos, not all of them with seafood. There are also plenty of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Visiting at dinnertime is highly recommended to experience the magical vibrant sunset.
Accommodations on Ada Bojana Beach
The Ada Bojana Nudist Settlement, which is right on the beach, opened its doors in 1973 and has undoubtedly seen better times. Designed as an unpretentious 2-star hotel with three rows of bungalows and two-story apartment buildings with direct beach access, it’s a relatively affordable option if you’re not put off by its neglected state and the general lack of renovation: service is friendly but the fixtures are retro!
Camping is also permitted in the adjacent nudist auto camp, and within footwalk distance, there are dozens of riverside cabins available for rent in an idyllic setting. About twenty minutes away by car lies the coastal town of Ulcinj, which is your best bet for charming boutique hotels and a wide choice of self-catering accommodations.
