Blue Flag beaches are usually also the most beautiful in the world. The Blue Flag is an ecological label given to a small selection of beaches that comply with and maintain stringent environmental and safety standards, resulting in exceptional water quality.
Of the 40 blue flag beaches in Montenegro, 20 are on the Budva Riviera. And out of these denominated beauties, we’ve selected our favorites from around Montenegro, including those new entries for 2023.

Jaz Beach
While Budva’s Adriatic coast comes with plenty of gorgeous beaches, Jaz Beach is one of the few sandy ones; plus it has a Blue Flag status. Its almost perfectly unspoiled backdrop only adds to its appeal. Jaz Beach is a popular choice for locals as well, and its smooth sand and serene waters make it almost ideal for families with small children.

Drobni Pijesak Beach
Drobni Pijesak Beach is considered not only one of the best beaches in Montenegro, but you’ll also find this stretch of the Budva Riviera on many international lists of Europe’s top beaches. While Deobni Pijesak certainly is not skipped by summer crowds, its remote, rugged beauty has fortunately spared it from mass tourism.

Lucice Beach
This lovely cove beach of light, soft pebbles gently sloping into azure water has undoubtedly earned its Blue Flag status. It is located in footwalk distance from neighboring Petrovac, and its easy accessibility and abundance of parking, make Lucice Beach equally popular with locals and visitors from abroad.

Buljarica Beach
Stretching for more than 2,400 meters and being close to the popular holiday resort of Petrovac, Buljarica Beach is one of the least crowded beaches during peak season. Its calm and clean waters also make it especially popular with families with small children. There is a nudist part of the beach on the southern end, and its untouched landscapes make it a popular paragliding spot as well.

Kamenovo Beach
Typical of many of the coves on the Budva Riviera, Kamenovo Beach is a gorgeous pebble beach inlet with emerald waters and red cliffs. Despite its sense of remoteness, there are several paths to explore, including one to neighboring Becici Beach which has also a blue flag status.

The red pebble beach, which is also a top destination for water sports, is lined with a long coastal promenade connecting it to neighboring Budva and Kamenovo.

Long Beach Ulcinj
Backed by pine forests and dunes, while shallow waters and sandy grounds make it perfect for families with small children, and despite its length of 12 kilometers, the Long Beach in Ulcinj remains one of Montenegro’s cleanest beaches. It is divided into many sections with beach clubs, including one for kitesurfers.

Plavi Horizonti Beach
If it’s a distant paradise vibe you’re after, then the Plavi Horizonti Beach on the Lustica Peninsula has it in spades. The powder sand is smooth under your feet and extends for a hundred meters into the sea, being extremely kid-friendly. The beach is flanked by Mediterranean vegetation and trails run along the beautiful cliffs.
